Print is mounted on gold paper (4.5 x 3.5), and then mounted again on brown paper. Silhouette signed and dated "Alfred Stieglitz/May 19, 1904" by Stieglitz in ink on print recto.

Camera Work, the legendary publication put out by Alfred Stieglitz from 1903-1917, had a cast of characters behind the scenes who gave it its unique voice and made it run. Kerfoot was one such essential member of the Stieglitz circle, serving as Associate Editor of the publication from 1905–1917, and also contributing humorous essays. Variants of this images of Stieglitz (and a similar one Kerfoot made of Steichen) was reproduced in Issue 8 (May 1904).

Kerfoot's photographs are part of the collections of the Getty, the Smithsonian and the Philips Academy.
