Lou Jacobs Jr. studied photojournalism and his early work was as an editorial photographer, contributing to many magazines. In the 1940s he began taking fine art photographs with a view camera and became friends with Edward Weston. During the 1940s and '50s he turned his camera on many of his fellow artist friends, making portraits of Man Ray, Helen Lundberg, Bill Brice and many others.
