About This Image

Dornac or Paul Marsan, or Pol Marsan, are all pseudonyms of Paul François Arnold Cardon (January 6, 1858 in Paris - January 10, 1941 in Paris) was a French photographer. Active from the 1880s in Paris, Dornac specialized in portraits of personalities photographed in their homes or at their place of work. He is the author of a series of photographic portraits from 1887 to 1917 entitled "Nos contemporains chez eux". His most famous portraits are probably of Rodin.

Many portraits by Dornac taken either directly or in woodcuts were published in Le Monde and illustrated between 1890 and 1900. Dornac is buried in the Père-Lachaise cemetery.
